I. THE VERDANT SENTRY - Attention, New Recruits! It's clear that all of the city's law enforcement is handled by the various branches of the Sentry: from Mounted Division handling street patrol, to the Aerial Corps provided airborne support for tactical and rescue operations, to the Nautical Branch undertaking regular sea patrols as the first line of defense along the archipelago's borders. But everyone interested in joining up has to go through their basic training program, and that starts today with a general skills assessment. There's quite a mix of attendees today, spread across nearly every race represented in Aifaran and including other Dreamfolk, but whatever the recruiter is saying is getting lost in the two chatty Igheeri who seem to think they're too good to listen to the standard welcome speech... time to interrupt by signaling the person in charge? Take care of it yourself? Gripe about it to the person in line beside you? II. KIRIN RODEO - Place Your Bets! At the end of every month, the Mounted Division of the Sentry holds their skills competition. When they're not on the field, their steeds are often the subject of much admiration from children and more than a few adults. Astride many breeds of kirin, some lithe and fleet, some stockier and stronger, these off-duty officers demonstrate their control and bond over the notoriously strong-willed and intelligent creatures with complicated maneuvers. There's a surprisingly in-depth system for betting on one's favourite to win the various matches, and just about everyone's willing to explain the odds to newcomers. There's only one rule: all proceeds go to funding of the city's charities. (Bragging rights on winning are still yours to keep.) Two bells ring loudly over the crowd - last call for wagers! III. WE HAVE REGULATIONS ABOUT THIS - Munga on the Loose! Munga are ill-tempered, rat-sized spiky lizards with a gift for camouflage, and whose venom in their spines and teeth is also highly hallucinogenic. And... they're on the loose. Fortunately, keeping them is highly regulated, and pretty much everyone in Aifaran knows about them, but loose Munga are uncommon enough that the reaction is more likely to be startled flailing at a hint of spines and skittering. Today someone's exotic pet has slipped out of their hands, and it's trailing a harness and lead as it zigzags away, prickling and hissing and going for the ankles. It's given a wide berth, except by those who don't notice until it's too late or those too preoccupied by something else. Hopefully the proper authorities have been notified to catch and return the creature, but maybe someone helpful can keep it from getting too far away? IV. A SURPRISE WINDFALL - Officer, This Isn't Mine... There was a loud thud as someone tosses a heavy bag from the window of a dilapidated building. Five seconds later there’s smoke pouring out the windows and your holding what seems to be someone else’s luggage. Opening it, you find carefully wrapped bricks of some very illegal drugs, and someone down the side alley is pointing at you and yelling. A mounted Sentry officer is giving you a rather peculiar look as well while he calls in the fire brigade. And among the people fleeing the building, there are five Kin’nal looking at you, wide-eyed, as it suddenly dawns on them that they messed up. Take your new prize and split before reinforcements arrive? Try to explain the mistake? Take note that the building is still on fire? V. INTO THE UNKNOWN - Watch Your Back Out There The sea patrol discovered the new irregularity a few days ago, reporting that it looks like a series of tall and jagged stone towers rising up from the ocean. It's incomplete as these planar-shunted locations often are, as if something massive had taken a bite of some mysterious city and then spat it whole into the seas of Konryu. Having been chosen as part of the exploration team, you've been working your way through the complicated labyrinth of stone tunnels and dead ends, searching for what the Opara engineers had enthusiastically described as a potential new power source. "Trace the green glowing power lines," was their (sort of helpful) instruction. However the lean, dark and toothy thing you've just glimpsed should probably be a more pressing concern... warn others? Take it on yourself? Pray it hasn't spotted you? VI. WILDCARD - Because You're Not The Boss Of Me Anything else that doesn't fit the above prompts is welcome, just keep it within the game setting please! He reaches Trahearne just in time for the minions to appear, and Judai stops in his tracks, his attention focusing on them rather than on the impending creature for the moment.
"He~h? So you can do that? That's pretty cool."
no subject
He could see the toothy creature slightly better now as it dropped to all fours to snap at the bone minions, which were dancing around it like little gremlins, clawing and biting back at the larger target. The unknown creature managed to catch one between its needle sharp teeth, and the bone minion promptly exploded in a putrid cloud, making the creature recoil with a raspy shriek as some of its teeth were knocked out from flying shards of bone.
Trahearne was keeping his eyes on the creature, watching his minions fight it with a small frown, seeming otherwise impassive about its appearance. "That looks to be undead, unless I miss my guess. It's imperative that we destroy it. If it runs away, we might not see it coming the next time it returns."
no subject
A frown crosses his face as he watches what he can of the fight; it's more gory than he's used to seeing. The end result should be the same, though.
"You seem knowledgable. Is there anything special that should be done to keep them down?"
no subject
The remaining bone minion was dancing around the larger creature now, keeping its attention away from the two of them. Trahearne grabbed the thin, but otherwise rather plain scepter that was hanging at his hip, brandishing it as he spared a glance over at Judai.
"Tell me, do you have a weapon? Can you fight?"
no subject
But at the question, Judai slings a bulky technological thing onto his arm. "Not personally. I can summon."
Given the precision in Trahearne's instructions, it might not be much help, but if worse comes to worst, Judai can always cover the defense.
"I've seen a lot of things, but nothing like this..." That being said, he's fairly calm as he glances over. "What are you going to do with that?"
no subject
"I'm going to do magic. Stay behind me, and I can defend you from the beast while you perform your summons."
Ahead of them, the lanky creature succeeded in spearing the bone minion on its claws before the little thing could explode. Shaking it off as the bone minion turned to dust, the creature rounded on the two of them and began to approach, a menacing gleam in its empty eye sockets.
no subject
"I'll be quick, but what magic are you going to use?"
He keeps an eye on both Trahearne and the creature as he says it; no sense in losing track of what his companion's doing. Normally, keeping an eye on his partner's movements would be all he needs to know, but that doesn't apply here, where he doesn't know what said partner is capable of.
no subject
Trahearne stepped forward towards the advancing creature, a cloud of darkness erupting around his body. It covered his bark and leaves in unnatural shadows, more of them radiating around his form in wispy shapes. When he raised his scepter and pointed it at the creature, a couple of bolts of a dull green light burst fourth, battering at one of its arms. In response, the creature hissed and ran at him, swiping claws at him that passed sluggishly through the dense shadows.
His death shroud wouldn't last for very long, but with luck, it would be long enough to buy Judai the time he needed.

His eyes glow, gold and green, briefly in the dark. “Neos!”
A silvery skintight figure that looks like a man leaps toward the creature, punches at it to subdue it, and then, with a brief scuffle, manages to pin it to the wall.
“You wouldn’t happen to have a blade, would you?”
no subject
The question does make Trahearne pause. He lifts a hand to rub at the back of his neck, "I'm afraid I didn't think to bring one. If you can direct the Neos to crush its skull, that would perhaps be our best option."
no subject
He looks toward the not-quite-human-looking monster, who looks back. Crushing something's head isn’t going to be pleasant, but with a slight nod from Judai, Neos does so.
Judai waits a second, and then steps forward, Neos staying where he is.
"Let’s hope there aren't any more of those. They don’t travel in packs, do they?"
no subject
"Its name? How interesting... But I'm afraid this is the first time I have ever encountered this variety of undead. If it does travel in packs, we'll find out soon enough." That was an unsettling thought. Trahearne wasn't confident that they could handle more than two of those at once, much less any greater numbers.
"Let's not linger here. With luck, the rest of the group won't be too far ahead."
