Test Drive Meme #002

KHU IODUAN; TEST DRIVE MEME #002

I. THE OPARA CORE - May I Borrow That?
The engineers of the Opara Core facility are always on the lookout for new technology they can adapt into the ever-growing web that provides communications across the archipelago and beyond. Their staff are assembled represent a wide swath of the native races in Konryu whose skills are mechanically-inclined, and of Dreamfolk who've arrived and want to pitch in. Part of their standard operating procedure is to take an interest in tech coming in with the newly arrived Dreamfolk. An excitable female Muin, her bright shock of electrically pink hair and matching, jewel-like eyes alight with a madcap glee, is wheedling for whatever gadget you have on your person. "Please?" she asks for the third time, blinking at you hopefully. "I'll put it back exactly how it was when I'm done. I promise..."

II. DREAMING BRIDGE - Grab Your Apron!
The Aifaran government fully supports the Dreaming Bridge with both coin and supplies to take care of newcomer Dreamfolk, but the actually day-to-day operations are left to the site staff themselves. While they have a full complement of volunteers to manage the various aspects -- from cleaning and setting up rooms for new Dreamfolk, to helping new arrivals get used to the city by answering questions and organizing guided tours. "Hey you," an Arybar calls out, motioning with a soup ladle. He's about seven feet tall, with tiger-like striping on his skin. "Come back into the kitchen and help out, would you? We're short-staffed today, and since you're getting three meals a day for free, you can share the load."

III. HEY MAN ARE YOU LOST - Herding Big Dumb Cats
Odd jobs are always available for people who want to make some extra rhinn, and today's option for making some quick cash is to help some farmers clear a stubborn herd of curamija who are grazing on the new sprouts. While taller than most people, about the size of a draft horse, and possessing a massive rack of antlers, they look quite majestic... but they're prone to standing and staring dumbly at those who try to shoo them back off the cultivated land. Several of them have bunched up into a befuddled group, looking perplexed when none of them seem to know what direction to move in. Try to scare them? Coax them with treats? Declare them a lost cause?

IV. KNOWLEDGE IS PRECIOUS - Accosted By Monks
The Tariken monks are out in full force today, their orange and green robes making them easy to spot in a crowd, and there's a high chance you might be approached by one. Their sect values knowledge above everything else, so recording information from Dreamfolk, who are transient to Konryu, is something they see as imperative. Some of the questions are standard ("what's the name of your world? is it anything like Konryu? do have have any special position there?") but sometimes they move into stranger territory, like what's your favourite bath soap scent and how many times you wear your socks before washing them -- all of which are asked with the most studious attentiveness, just in case your answer holds the secret to the multiverse.

V. FETCH A PRETTY PRICE - To Skim Or Not To Skim
The salvage mission -- this time to a small island that looked initially like farmland, but was revealed to be entirely mechanical, has been a marked success! As the transports are being organized to return to the archipelago and the safety of the protective magical barrier, you've been left in charge of a sizable cache of recovered parts that are bound for the Opara Core technicians back in Aifaran. However, you're fairly certain that most, if not all of what's in this crate would fetch a high price at the Kel'ghau black market. Some of them are definitely pocket sized, and with the volume there, no one would notice a few pieces missing... right?

VI. WILDCARD - Because You're Not The Boss Of Me
Anything else that doesn't fit the above prompts is welcome, just keep it within the game setting please!

bostonhowler: (innocence)

Don't make me bring Byakuya.... God I'd have to canon review so much.

IV.

Brigid smells the cold before she feels it. She's not sure what it is, but considering that it's not cold here, there's something going on. Following her nose, she clears her throat, looking at the monks. "I believe he belongs to me." She says, smiling.

The monks are less than impressed. But they, grudgingly, leave the Newcomer alone, turning him over to another Dreamer.

"Hi. I'm Brigid." She holds out her hand.
freezetheheavens: ([04])

omg Byakuya, though.

[personal profile] freezetheheavens 2018-01-25 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
He relaxes when the monks leave, the cold disappearing and it returns to its relatively normal weather again. Hitsugaya shifts to turn to the woman who helped him, eying her hand briefly before taking it for a shake.

"Hitsugaya. Thank you for that." He was close to freezing them and he knows that won't be taken kindly.
bostonhowler: (happiness)

IKR? Everyone needs that troll in their life.

[personal profile] bostonhowler 2018-01-25 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
The smell disappears. Interesting. She cocks her head to the side, bright red hair spilling over one shoulder.

"well, you're welcome. Have you been to the Dreaming Bridge yet?"
freezetheheavens: ([05])

He is the best troll and people really need to that side of him more

[personal profile] freezetheheavens 2018-01-25 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
"No, I haven't. I've barely just arrived before those monks came to me."

Pulling his hand back, there's a brief curious look at her, sensing something...off. But the curiosity disappears just as quickly as it comes, replaced with his usual blank expression.
bostonhowler: (chinhands)

My semester starts Monday. Maybe I can drag him out, but I need to canon review first

[personal profile] bostonhowler 2018-01-25 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah, well then. Welcome." She says, brightly. "The Dreaming Bridge is where you'll get your orientation, and some explanations about things." Not that she can't answer questions.

"It's this way." She jerks her head in the correct direction. "I can answer some questions for you if you'd like."
freezetheheavens: ([100])

That's a lengthy canon review. But I do wish you luck!

[personal profile] freezetheheavens 2018-01-25 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
She's helpful. Hitsugaya honestly isn't sure whether or not to accept such friendliness, but it honestly isn't the strangest thing he's seen. Besides, it'll help having people show him around first, so he nods.

"Have you been in this place long?"
bostonhowler: (hand-giggle)

Bring Hitsugaya. Let's build a Bleach cast!

[personal profile] bostonhowler 2018-01-25 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Brigid shakes her head. "About three weeks, this time." She says. "About five hundred years ago, I was here for most of a year." She explains even though that's not an explanation.

"My boyfriend was on the turtle longer than I was, though." She waves around. "Most of us just arrived in the last couple of weeks."
freezetheheavens: (Default)

Definitely thinking about it!

[personal profile] freezetheheavens 2018-01-25 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Five hundred years ago?

The small boy looks surprised, craning his neck up a bit enough to look at her. "Turtle?" He sounds genuinely confused, reasonably so.
bostonhowler: (going wolf)

Brigid will adopt him as a brother. It'll be great.

[personal profile] bostonhowler 2018-01-25 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah, somewhere, there was a giant turtle that had a city on its back, called Tu Vishan." She explains. "Most of us Dreamers were there, first. Something went wrong, and we were given the choice to go home or remain. The going home didn't last." She says dryly.
freezetheheavens: ([50])

Please adopt him. He needs people to look after him.

[personal profile] freezetheheavens 2018-01-25 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
He listens to the explanation, blinking once in reaction. In fact, he doesn't seem overly surprised by hearing the explanation about a city being on a turtle's back - there were a lot of weird things back home that it didn't seem really surprising - but then again, he didn't think people could be just dragged to different places either. "Seems like it has a habit of just pulling people here on a whim."
bostonhowler: (innocence)

Best thing is? She can cook.

[personal profile] bostonhowler 2018-01-25 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Brigid shrugs, her hands in her back pockets. "There's supposedly some reason behind it, but I've yet to find it out." She nods to several people as they walk. A breeze kicks up and she sneezes violently.

"Valdis might have better explanations, but she's one that's been here a while, well, when you consider her being on the turtle."
freezetheheavens: ([98])

....Even better.

[personal profile] freezetheheavens 2018-01-25 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
"You okay?" He asks mostly out of politeness when she sneezes.

"Who is Valdis?"
bostonhowler: (chinhands)

[personal profile] bostonhowler 2018-01-25 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I'm fine. Flowers get me every spring." She says, waving to a cart full of flowers as they pass.

"Valdis was the chief of police, back on the turtle. I'm not sure what she's doing here now." Brigid admits. "But she knows the answer to a lot more questions than I do."
freezetheheavens: ([87])

[personal profile] freezetheheavens 2018-01-25 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Hitsugaya accepts the explanation with a nod.

"Would she be on the Bridge, too?" If she is, then Hitsugaya can ask her for more questions about this place. At least then he might be able to have more information about what he can expect as a whole in this place.
bostonhowler: (fierce)

[personal profile] bostonhowler 2018-01-25 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
"She would be, more than likely." She can't tell, but probably. Too many new smells that she's getting used to again.

"And the Bridge is a hotel, sort of. You'll be assigned a room, probably with roommates, and given a stipend, so that you can find work." She says.
freezetheheavens: ([04])

[personal profile] freezetheheavens 2018-01-25 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
A glance over at her, expression once again curious.

"Seems fair enough to work, I suppose." Even if they were being pulled here against their will. "All Dreamers are assigned there?"

He's sure that's what the people of this world has been calling him since he came here.
bostonhowler: (facepalm)

[personal profile] bostonhowler 2018-01-25 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"We are." She says, with a nod. "We're assigned two or three to a suite." Which is weird for her. She's never lived with someone before.

"There's twenty or thirty of us." She says. "So you won't be alone. There might even be someone from your world here."
freezetheheavens: ([100])

[personal profile] freezetheheavens 2018-01-25 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Two or three isn't so bad." Even if he was never a fan of staying in the same room s others.

At the last bit, he almost huffs out. "Possibly, but I wouldn't keep my hopes up about that."
bostonhowler: (Default)

[personal profile] bostonhowler 2018-01-26 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, it's different from the last time I was here, but it's a home of sorts." She slips past several people who nod to her, and barely notice the young man next to her.

"Oh?" She asks. "Do you have a way to tell without looking at the roster?"
freezetheheavens: ([66])

[personal profile] freezetheheavens 2018-01-26 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
He's used to not generally being seen, so it doesn't faze him much when he's not acknowledged. Though, whether it's because he's generally a spirit or of his height--who knows. He's not going to question it.

"In a way, yes." How to even explain spiritual energy signatures, especially since everyone has their own unique one.
bostonhowler: (chinhands)

[personal profile] bostonhowler 2018-01-26 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"That has to be convenient." Brigid says. She tucks her hands into her pockets. "Unfortunately, most of us aren't as lucky. So we keep a running list of people at the Bridge."
freezetheheavens: ([94])

[personal profile] freezetheheavens 2018-01-28 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Where is the list usually kept?"

Even if something ends up happening where he won't usually be able to sense his comrades from home, it'll still be good to have an idea of that list.
bostonhowler: (chinhands)

[personal profile] bostonhowler 2018-01-28 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
"It's in the Bridge itself. I'll show you." She says, leading him toward the hotel-like building. She opens the door, stepping out of the way as native kids go running out, laughing. She shakes her head, and leads him in.

"Here you go. List and room assignments for anyone and everyone."
